It really depends on you budget and time.

For a beginner, it is good to start with nt1.

building the is the part of playing.
it is not that difficult if you follows each step as shown in instruction manual.

if you dont want to build the car, you can get a ready-to-run kit first.

Yep, building could be fun but it could sometimes be frustrating (especially when I have no experience in rc cars).  I have done my fair share of rc heli building for years and if I can relate that to rc cars, it would be difficult to achieve what an experience builder can do and I may waste a completely good (and maybe expensive) car.  It's sometimes a hurdle to get into a hobby especially when something is not built correctly and it will strip the fun out of the hobby.

In some cases, a person's job may also prevent him from building a model.  I have known a few doctors who loves filying RC Heli but do not wish to involve in buiding RC Heli.  If you were their patient, would you want a doctor with dirty fingers to touch you or put a thermometer in your mouth?  I won't but that's just an example (maybe a bit far fetched though).

Actually, to give you guys the whole story, one week ago, I bought a VORZA Flux HP and a Kysosho Inferno VE (ORION) and a 4PKS and 4 x Silverback lipo 6s (costing me over 14K already).  Both buggies are RTR.

I went to TRC one night and saw two guys playing some nitro on-road on the outdoor circuit.  It looks extremely fun and decided to give the hobby a serious go.  The problem is that there are so many choices of cars (1:10, 1:8, GP, EP, on-road, off-road, etc.) and in the RCTECH forum, most of the popular on-road cars have several hundred pages to read and I simply cannot find my "holy grail".  (I think NT1 has 500 pages.  Vorza has 400 pages.)

My two buggies (on Sweep slick tires) were crashed and broken at my fun night at TRC (it was fun) costing another $1,000 is replacement parts so I understand that this hobby is expensive.  Notwithstanding this, I still would like to go ahead and purchase an on road car in the next few days.

So far, Beebone Ching has suggested RX8 (from reading posts in this forum, he seems to be the undisputed expert on RX8).  Another suggests MCX5 which appears to have won the World Championship this year and is also a very good car.  Another CHing suggests Capricorn (which I am still learning what it is).

In the 1:8 world, which is the most popular model (something like an NT1 in the 1:10 world)?

Many many thanks to all the Chings.  I understand I asked a tough and difficult question in my original post and I hope to learn more.

Pick the xray RX8.
I recommend you to go to the KWS shop "Red star".
Just pay them, they will build it for you.

To be honest, u can see what I wrote on Rctech about RX8.
If u look for some speed to start with, so go for NT1.
If u look for xcitement, go for 1/8. Mrx5 is most popular, but too fragile for beginner on 1/8 on road. RX8 is very reliable, but needs time to fine tune with ur driving style.

beebone c-hing, i am consider in RX8 or MRX5, do u think the F & R belt tension adjustment of RX8 is less convenience than MRX5?
What do u think the plastic F & R gear box of RX8? Also the plastic middle pulley holder? Does it has durability problem? But it should be cheaper if it need to replace.
What do u think about the front upright of MRX5, which use ball end, instead of traditional pivol ball? Is it easy to come off with minor clash?

thanks

If you consider the front belt tensioner, I can say:

Front Belt:
-MRX-5 is easy to change the belt and adjust the belt tension. But the belt tensioner is alway lossen, it holds by 2 X 3mm screw only.
-RX-8 is same as NT-1, front belt changing is headache, belt tension is adjusted by the front axle eccentric bushing, u shd detach the front bulkhead (either side) and center sahft to change the front belt.

Rear Belt:
-MRX-5 is nightmare to change rear belt, detachs the roll bar, bulkheads......... or even detach the rear gearbox to break it down. The belt tension shd adjust time to time because more it runs, the belt longer and longer.
-RX-8 (dont type to long), easy to change and belt long lasting.

Compare with MRX-5, although both use the same STS S3M belt pitch, the RX-8 front/rear belt mileage is very high because of belt/pulley meshing is much better than MRX-5, so I wont worry about the belt changing.

Beebone Ching, which car has a larger sweet spot, MRX5 or RX8?  By larger sweet spot, I mean a resonably small incorrect setting would not result in very erractic behaviour and still drive reasonably well?

I understand that MRX5 WC edition is arriving in HK very soon (with new clutch & some option parts, etc.), would it be a good idea to get this package?

Which Nova Rossi should I go for Flash PT or PTS?  What are the differences?  What are 9 port and 7 port engines,  Kangeroos etc.?  Does these engines require frequent rebuilding such as changing bearings, etc.?  Can you be kind enough to point me to posts/articles?  Some say they do not require running in but most say that the run in done by Nova Rossi is crap and requires running in yourself.  Is this true?

Sorry to ask a lot of newbie questions again.
