MP9e VS RC8.2e

Hi guys, I used to drive the 1/10 2WD SCT on track, and now considering to drive 1/8 buggy to gain the greater speed and handling on track, also i just prefer RTR set as i dont want to spend time to do the buliding and soldering, do you have any comment about i m thinking MP9e or RC8.2e RTR set as they r in the same price range, Thanks a lot!

You in Hong Kong? and by you keep on saying you are going to run the buggy on "track", you mean Lali?

RTR cars are designed to lure people into the hobby, then nickle and dime their owners to death on parts and upgrades. They are not designed for good performance (e.g. Their gear diffs only have 2 inner gears instead of the usual 4, good luck in you want smooth diff action...Their ESC and motors are sensorless and designed for a wide range of battery applications from 3 to 6 cells...Their tires are for bashing, good luck if you want good traction from them...etc) And if you want decent performance with these cars you would need to upgrade them, and then you end up paying at least twice the amount of what you paid just to upgrade it to the performance of the normal kit car, all while you struggle with the car's mediocre performance all through you path of upgrading the car... So, unless you are restraint by your budget, why don't you go for a kit instead? You can pay someone at the model shop to build for you. What you spend on a proper kit would save you in the long run compared with a RTR car, and you get to appreciate the better handling characteristics from day one. For a decent kit, if you are running at Lali I would recommend Tekno, its built like a tank and very good performance. The good part is that Lali is always stock full of Tekno supplies to keep your car running, and staff there are helpful in getting your car dialed in. Check the other forums out for comments on the Tekno, you don't have to believe me.

And if you really still want to go for an RTR, go for the Team C or the Serpent, at least you can get parts for that easily here (especially Team C)....Good luck with parts for Kyosho here, and the same for Associated, and the Associated just come out with the 8.3e kit so an updated RTR version should be on the pipeline...

While MP9 no doubt awesome car..... For RTR version, I suggest the 8.2e .....

Of course, depends on price too, I am in Canada, 8.2RTR is app. $550cad ($3300HKD) while MP9e RTR is app. $680cad (just over $4K hkd)  for $130cad less, 8.2 RTR is better value....

Depends on parts support too....

Yes, i am in Hong Kong, and driving in Lali track sometime about once a month.

Thanks for your explaination about the kit set, and I do agree all of your points why go for the kit set for preferance wise, but of cos the budget is my concern too, the completed kit ( car with esc, motor, servo, radio system) will be nearly double price of the RTR set, for instance as RC8.2e , the RTR set 4k and the completed kit set with be like 6k to 7k. anyway, i am still considering for all these options!!

in Hong Kong I think they are also around 3.5 to 4K HKD, so for me to say they are in the same price , so in term of proformance wise, do you have any comment on them??? one i noticed is the RC8.2e is getting the new version soon, and how about mp9e???

8.2e RTR a is offering special edition now, updated chassis, and factory team shocks...  Factory shocks easily worth the extra $500 or 600 ....

Will be a while for RC8.3e RTR a coming out .... As I recall, 8.2e RTR came out ~ 2 year after 8.2 FT ...

So, by compare, even 8.3e comes out, will back to "cheap out" shocks, and probably more expensive.... I suggest if you like AE, should take advantage now...

MP9 TKi is better car than 8.2, be fair, both good, however, the RTR MP9e TKi is quite "cheap out", very thin shock towers, thin out two gear diff ..... Thin body shell ....  Need some upgrades right the way....

While I have not driven either of your choices, I can tell you that their stock performance is not much different one or the other...

Try this to take benefit of the advance of the internet...the instructions manuals of your target RTR cars are downloadable from their respective manufacturers' website. Download their manuals and take note of the parts which could be classify as consumables (e.g. the front and rear A arms, output shafts and cups), then try to look them up in the local hobbyshops. See for yourself how easy you could find parts for these cars...

The truth is unless you shelf the car, you might break parts or even wear them out when you play with it. I could anticipate you want to play more than everything else, that's why you look for a RTR (budget aside). As such you don't want to wait for parts to be shipped overseas simply because there is no local availability.

And if you still want to know which RTR to go for, my answer is in my previous post...in any case goodluck in finding your car

If you have your radio already then your budget might be able to fit a 4K car kit. If not you shall have to get a cheaper kit instead, or look you can make shift and look for used items here (eg radio) to try to fit your budget. By rough calculation you budget should still alllow you to get Team C kit car with new radio and stuffs. Go shop for yourself, that's fun too
