Who in here still has the Tamiya Sand Scorcher or Rough Rider?
Share some photos please?

I don't recall seeing many. And they never come up on Yahoo HK auction.
Back in the days, were these cars ever popular in HK?
I am looking for a SS locally if possible.

Still working on 2 restore, one more complete and one no too.
CRP nylon front and rear arms.
CRP wide chassic
MIP metal roll cage
CRP side guard
CRP front and rear anti-roll bar
Thorp metal gear with ball diff.
a orginal scorcher shell with only 1 crack...

in 1978 to 83, Rougha rider and sand scorcher were very popular in HK. Almost everyone had one.

yes ar, I still remember I need save half year pocket money to purchase the car, <-- only, then so fool to soldering a battery pack myself with carbon 6V battery<-- yes, just want to test run the car but without a control!!! then my father gave me money to buy the control (Futaba FP-T2L), a 7.2V battery and a hi-power slow charge, charge one night and play only 5 minutes... but at that time, still a very very happy time. At the time rough rider first production.

And yes, as rough rider is $35 less than sand scorcher, I take the rough rider, if no remember, $315 and $350 at sun sing.

The shock mount had been replace and the bumper had been replace to the gray color version, others all keep in 1st generation spec.

Modification is the true spirit of RC. Old cars need even more surgeries

not a heavy mod. just a memory when still a child, always take a radio control magizine and tick which mod. should buy... even never buy one before, so only go to the step same as the 'target' wanted before..

Almost as expensive as you get it now on ebay

HK$300 can buy 30 lunch back in the early 80s....

no wonder I left the hobby since then and only got back after I started working.

Anyone had try a Parma Ferrari motor before? Was it any good?

purschase 2 parma motor before, one is ferrari, and also pulsar, pulsar come with changable brush.
ferrari can use 8 minutes onroad, pulsar 3.5 minutes off road, yes, never got enough time and you need to change a small brush, with 64 pitch gear, you can make the time.

the pulsar cost 650 around 14 years before.

On the other hand it is high torque and very fast, even a 4+kg gallop can go with optima (first 2 minutes)

If re-release rough rider not in original form then we can always get a body replica from Kamtec and put it on a news 2wd (or even 4wd) buggy. Why wait for tamiya?

One important point: the Rough rider series was interesting also because of it's long history and availability of option parts from so many companies.

Nowadays, seldom do you see 3rd party make a differential from scratch for any cars.....
