For the pass three years, I have at least attend one race in Taiwan every year. All my previous adventure were with 1/10 EP buggy. The last race I attend were the 2011 Asia RC EP Buggy Cup, and I have known quite a few friends then. It was always fun racing in Taiwan, the racer are friendly and they are skillful, so it's always a good place to learn.

This year, I have the chance to attend another race which again were organize by Asia RC Info. The race will last two days, from 10th - 11th, March. The difference thou, this time it was a nitro race, and as of now, there are racer from Japan and USA attending. As some of you may know, nitro buggy were never my strong point. Anyway, I have start my preparation early this time, and I will update this thread starting from the 8th, where I will arrive in Taipei. Of cause, I am not the star of the race, actually I am going with Lok Wah, and this will also be the first time for him to go to Taiwan, wish us luck...

I have add some options to my JQ before the race, which either make the car stronger or lighter, not that the JQ need it thou.

今次架油 JQ, 我最後改埋同架電車一樣用 Smooth Gearing, 希望佢走勢更似架電版咁就 very 骨啦!

Over Drive, you only need to change the front crown gear: JQ part number JQPB 173

Effectively, you are only changing the front crown gear from 43T to 41T, this way, it will make the front rotate faster, hence the name overdrive. I have been using this option for all my previous race with my Nitro JQ.

For smooth gearing, you actually need JQS025

Which as you can see, is a complete set of gears, you will also need a 13T clutch bell to let it work properly. The smooth gearing actually change the whole car gear ratio and reduce wheel spin by using a higher gear ratio, hence the name smooth gearing. I have been using this option for all my previous race with my E-JQ

Ok, arrive Taiwan nice and safe, below are some update:

We arrive on the 8th around 4 o'clock, and our friends here had organize a pick up service, so relatively pain free, we are on our way! Traffic jam was a problem thou...

And of cause, we are eager to take a look of the track we are going to race on! The track was much bigger then I thought, and Lok Wah had already practice for two days. The track was super hard pack, and if you crash, the damage are quite fatal..

After checking it out, it was almost 6 o'clock, and time for a great dinner. One thing that I like most about Taiwan, the food are always amazing.... I will have some more update today later....

I enjoy racing in Taiwan so much, and one of the reason were the food there... A lot of snacks and it's always tasty!

As some of you may know, this race had become a very muddy experience for all of us. Although I have arrive on Thursday, the track condition was so wet that I didn't even get the chance to practice until Friday, and it was a very short one too. I think in total I have manage to drive for 3-4 tanks nitro fuel, all up less then 20 minutes. of cause this is not ideal for me, as I knew nothing about the track prior to this race! I am glad Lok Wah did came 2 days earlier and he manage to have some dry track to test on.

Finally get to meet Ryan Lutz in person, a great and very easy going guy. He will be coming over for this week race in KRC, and you guys should reall take this chance and see how a world class driver tackle the KRC track.

Now for the race, I suck! Never get the rhythm right for the track, and with the muddy condition, not a chance. I must say the average standard of the Taiwan racer are very high! The track itself actually are very challenging and fun to race on. The race turn out to be a good experience and we learn so much on racing in condition like this. Lok Wah were able to make the A-main, and that's when our luck are off. We change a brand new receiver batteries before the final, and it turns out to be a faulty one which only last for 30 seconds before it's completely dead. After changing the batteries, we are already 5 minutes behind. However with good sportsmanship, we insist on completing the race and finally were able to finish the race in 6th position. I can't help but thinking what if.....

Ryan encounter his share of the bad luck too, with engine taking in water in one of his qualify run, he were force to run the 1/2 with a brand new non-break in engine, which of cause are very unstable and flame out kills his chance finally. I am just hoping the coming race in China will be a very dry one!

sorry I did not took that many photos, as my hand are constantly cover with mud....
