Being new to Lipo's, and not knowing much about them, i didnt think twice when my 4,000 - 25C IP brand lipo, took in more charge than my supposedly 4,200 - 25C BY ENERGY brand lipo. I did however ask one of the guys in the Action Hobbies shop about it and he told me it was normal. At least now i know it isnt.
So. I bought a few of these BY Energy 4,200 25C lipo's from Action Hobbies.
Having only had them for a couple of months, 1 of the cells in one of the packs decided to die on me. Rather than throwing away the whole pack which contained 1 good cell, i decided to take out the dead cell and leave the other as a spare to match with one of my other packs should they suffer the same consequences. Only to my surprise that hidden away printed on the inside of the cell was 3,800.
No Wonder my pack died, I've been charging them at 1C - 4.2A
Anyone else found any similar experiences with BY ENERGY.
Should i take all my BY ENERGY packs back to Action Hobbies and get a refund?
What if 1 of the packs exploded whilst i was charging it at 4.2A instead of 3.8A.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Another product I concern is the China made ESC. What 35A, 60A mean ?? Just a product number. I burnt 2 Hobbywing 35A and 1 Hobbywing 60A in this summer. I'd never trust the spec of those China brand Esc.

It is none of business of using 4.2A to charge your 3800 mah cells. It's about how you use them. You surely have the right to buy those so-called non-Mainland product. It's so easy to do so provided you pay more.

I've got 4 35A Hobbywing running on 13T amd 9T respectively, running 5 packs of Lipo each weekly for around a year. They are performing very well and faster than many 8.5 and 5.5R respectively.

I Agree. But I still have 2 more 4,200 25C. Which i would be more than willing to open in the shop to prove to them that the product is mis-represented.
Because I am 100% sure that they are also 3,800. instead of 4,200 - reason: they only allow 3,500 MAX charge back in.
I also have a 4,200 35C BY Energy battery, and have noticed that this lets in more charge.

Thanks for the warning - will also avoid this brand from now on. As You just don't know what you are buying. Which in turn makes them potentially lethal, because you end up charging them at 1C+ without knowing. So if you are lucky they just die quickly and balloon instead of causing a fire in your flat.

Does this mean Speed Energy is a good reliable brand for lipo? Makes me pretty upset to know that my "BY Energy 25C" is worse than a real 20C.

Funnily enough, i also had a hobbywing 60A with 9t for touring, and never had any problems with it. But that was during the winter. I have to say i was very happy with that ESC - cheap and worked well for me.

Of course i have the right to buy non-mainland products as well as mainland products. But this is Hong Kong, not the mainland, and it is the shops selling the products that have some responsibility to ensure that their products are not mis-represented.
Lol. If i had bought my BY ENERGY battery from a hawker off the street, then i would not expect any warranty that the product is what it says it is. But i bought the product from a licensed shop and therefore would expect that the label on the outside to match the inside. Hence this Post to warn others of the problem with this Brand.
When i bought the battery no-one in the shop said to me. BY ENERGY is a mainland product, 4,200 = 3,800. If they had, then at least i would have known what i was buying.
How stupid of me to think what was printed on the outside would match the inside.

I also bought 2 packs of 'BY' 4S Lipo for offroading. 1 of the cells were bad after only 1 run for both packs!!! So I have no confidence in 'BY' products. I now run A123.

Spoke to Action Hobbies today.
They have kindly arranged for me to bring in the batteries and disassemble them in the store for further investigation. I believe 馮馮ymc will be there too. Will keep you all updated on the result.

bcgg - You need to check in between the 2 cells that are stuck together. It is printed on the inside not the outside. I have opened 3 batteries now 25C-4,200, 2 of them had 3,800 and the serial number as in the picture i posted. The other only had a serial no. which was 8042125.

ford- If you are having problems balancing the cells, then you can call Action Hobbies, or the shop you bought it from and get them to contact 馮馮ymc. From my understanding in meeting with 馮馮ymc today. He will replace the battery for you. - Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

So. Today i went to Action Hobbies with 4x BY Energy Batteries:
3x 25C-4,200
1x 35C-4,200
All 4 batteries were bought from Action Hobbies over a period of about 6 months, each time i buy 1 battery, so likely that the batteries were all from different batches produced from the factory.
At the shop i showed them the 1 battery i already opened. then i disassemble one of the 25C-4,200 batteries. To my surprise, this battery didnt contain any mah rating on the cells, just a serial no. 8042125, then i opened another 25C-4,200 battery and this one contain the identical 3,800 with serial no. I did not open the 35C-4,200 battery because, i found that this battery performed much better and was able to take in around 3,8xx mah on recharging.
When 馮馮ymc turned up - 1 hour later than the time i arranged to meet him at the shop, he was very nice and apologetic, explaining that it must have been an error at the factory, and then exchanged all 4 of my batteries for new BY Energy 35C-4,200. when looking at the case of my 35C-4,200 battery, 馮馮ymc said that it was a old batch and it was better to change it as well.
ford - your 35C-4,200 battery looks the same as the ones they replaced my batteries with.
from your picture, i can see that the case has little dimples in it. I presume that this is a marking showing it is the newer version/batch, as all of my old batteries did not have this.
The Result: All 4 batteries were exchanged for new BY Energy 35C-4,200.
The Conclusion: Are the new BY Energy 35C-4,200 batteries any good? will not know till i use them for a while. All i can say is, if you have a BY Energy 25C-4,200 battery, the chances are they are only 3,800mah. Action Hobbies does not sell the 25C version anymore. 馮馮ymc did mention that he would make a post on the forums. I can only hope that he will exchange all the 25C-4,200 batteries for 35C-4,200 without having to open them in the shop.
when i recharged my BY Energy 25C-4,200 at 1C(4.2A), i could only put in 3,400mah charge back into them (my lipo cut-off set to 3.4V). so if this is the same case for you. then call action hobbies and arrange an exchange.
Good Luck to all those with the 25C-4,200 batteries.
I will make a post in a few weeks to give me evaluation of the newer BY Energy 35C-4,200 batteries.
If you have any problems with your BY Energy battery, I advise you to take it back to the shop you bought it from. This includes balancing problems.

Also, I think BY Energy already learnt their lesson about printing the mah capacity on their battery cell. As i believe the newer versions of their batteries no longer have the mah capacity printed on the cell, just a serial no. so now we will have to trust the mah rating on the box. The question is... can you trust the mah rating on the box!
I think the only way to do this is to run down the battery to 3.4V and recharge it at 1C and see how much mah you can put in. Would be interesting to see the results of other brands compared to BY Energy as well.

Old VS New
The Newer batches of BY ENERGY has 10 dots on the case, 5 on each side of the label as seen in the bottom battery, with black box. The old does not as seen in the top battery with white box

From my understanding with ymc, if you discharge your battery to 3.0V and then recharge at 1C, you should end up with a mah rating very close to the battery mah capacity.
so if you recharge more than 4,XXX, back into the battery, then the chances are you have a 4,200mah capacity.
But if you can only recharge 3,7XX, then it is probably only a 3,800 capacity battery.
Let us know your results. Am very interested to find out.

To clarify. I meant 3.0V per cell.
I set my cut-off to 3.4 for safety when playing. This means that if you test your cells after playing, they will usually show more Volts like 3.6V. this is because it cut-off under load of 3.4V not static at 3.4V.
But to test capacity i think it better to set your cut-off to 3.2V per cell and test to keep your battery happy. But to find real capacity of battery then slow discharge to 3.0V per cell, and recharge.

then perhaps maybe you can explain to me why printed on the inside of the BY Energy Box it says,"Charge rate not exceed 1C"?
or are you telling me that because this is a mainland product the label is just for decoration, and in fact we should charge the battery at any C we like, as well as discharge the battery to below 3 volts, because onece again "It is none of business".
ps. Has anyone found the "supplemental advisory sheet" included with this battery? I now have had 8 new BY Energy batteries, but not 1 contained a advisory sheet.

xiang: No, I didnt exchange. I took the 4S apart and took out the 1 bad cell and made 3S packs instead. Actually I have switched to A123 instead. A123 is safer than Lipo in my opinion.

In my opinion: 'BY' lipo is ok if you intend to run stock motors on 1/10 scale. If your system requires large discharge rate (ie 1/8 scale or 1/10 5.5R motors etc) its better & safer to invest into better batteries.

In my opinion: 'BY' lipo is ok if you intend to run stock motors on 1/10 scale. If your system requires large discharge rate (ie 1/8 scale or 1/10 5.5R motors etc) its better & safer to invest into b ...

Over the past 6 months using my 4 BY Energy lipo batteries, I have to say that I have been happy with the product. (that is why i ended up with 4 of them
)I've been using them in 2 setups for 1/10th touring, Hobbywing 60A 9t and LRP TC sphere comp with speedpassion 6.5, and did not have any problems at all with them till last week, when 1 cell died on me, hence the disassembly of the battery and seeing 3,800 cells on a 4,200 battery. None of the batteries ballooned or showed any signs of lack of performance from when i first bought them. The old BY Energy 35C battery i had, definitely showed better performance...more power than the 25C batteries as well as more capacity.
I only hope that when i test the new BY Energy 35C-4,200 batteries this Friday, I will be able to confirm that they have a improved capacity over the old 25C-4,200. Whatever the results, good or bad, i will post them. My fingers are crossed and hope I will have some good news about the newer 35C BY Energy batteries. As, so far I do think that this is a good product, provided the batteries have the right capacity.
I will also test out an A123 battery, I have only heard good things about it so far.

Most of the Lipo you can buy in the market have similar label advising user to use 1C to charge their batteries. It's also the way we all along adopt to do with our Lipos. You said : "No Wonder my pack died, I've been charging them at 1C - 4.2A". But I consider this may not the real reason to cause your Lipo's death as it is allowable to using a bit higher C value to charge Lipos. That's what I want to express.

The results are in!
1) 35C-4,200 @ 6.4V = 500+mah connection break, followed by +-3,400 total:3,900+ ***
2) 35C-4,200 @ 6.0V = 4,059mah
3) 35C-4,200 @ 6.0V = 4,068mah
4) 35C-4,200 @ 6.0V = 4,100mah
*** note: Not sure what the cause was of the connection break, I assume it was a fault with my charger.
The method:
1. Use battery in car till LVC at 3.2 per cell
2. Discharge battery using "x-charger b6" to 3.0V per cell at 1.0A
3. Balance charge using "x-charger b6" at 1C
Conclusion:
Pretty happy with the results
Give and take the tolerances of the charger used, I have to say that these batteries are definitely 4,200 capacity. When discharging using the charger from 6.4V to 6.0V, only 50+mah were discharged from the batteries, so i'm pretty confident that after using these batteries in a car and charging afterwards, i would get 4,000+-mah back into them. Definitely more than what i was getting with the 25C-4,200 batteries.Well Done BY ENERGY!!! What a great result!
If anyone still has the 25C-4,200 (blue hardcase) batteries, would be great if you can replicate the test i did to see how they perform in comparison and post your results.
Note: I know this test isn't that scientific or precise, however, i think that it should give a reasonable result for the capacity of the battery using limited resources.

這篇有關的文章出了之後也沒有排山倒海的劣評,也沒有造馬的讚美反璞.
不境品牌己推出一定曰子,我想會是不過不失.其實lipo或nimh對小弟來
說沒有多大問題.因我不會比賽,也不求高速.衹喺剛好家中的陳年nimh電byebye需要買新電.
也一起換掉舊义机罷了.而我也會過兩天放假進行類似測試.

格氏我都有條硬殼4000mah 30c.......感覺上 佢實際應該唔只4000mah......我玩到 3.7-3.8v 然後差電仲可以差到37xx-38xxmah 哥頭.....相返條by 4200mah 35c 同样情況就得 28xx-30xx 之間......講電量 格氏硬殼4000mah 30c > by 4200mah 35c.(同样,價錢上都係條格氏硬殼貴d, 都同ip差唔多價lo).....至於爆唔爆 ,係我隻ecpower 上面感覺唔到太大分別........可能係d 好esc 上面先會出現d差距la......我就冇器材試la.......
