Motor (brushed) is water proof .. some receivers are water proof (resist) too ..

The internal bec from the hobby wing esc may not be strong enough, but should be ok, try try first ..

Lipo battery is much better then Nimh ..... Lipo (hard case with some DIY weather proof) is ok with rain snow .. but not drive into water, that is why people still use nimh, if you are not into high speed, 7.2/8.4 nimh is ok, you can also get 9.6, 10.8 or even 12V nimh, that hobby wing esc can that 3s voltage anyway.

I am not that crazy on waterproof my lips, I drove my cars with lips on snow..... So far ok....

But most the RC guys I know here are quite hardcore into crawler/trailer..... They plasti dipped the whole lipo..... Esc....servo...RX......and marine greased all the bearings ..... They treat their RC cars as submarines!!
